People value and defend their privacy, regardless of whether its public or confidential knowledge. No one wants anyone having free reign over their private information like medical documents. This prompted Dame Fiona Caldicott to conduct an examination that led to the identification of secure data practices – known as the Caldicott Principles – to alleviate these safety concerns. The Principles are widely accepted and respected across the world in regards to protection of individual privacy and confidentiality.
