April 20, 2023 ⚊ 1 Min read ⚊ Views 59 ⚊ BUSINESSA significant poet of Odia writing, Balarama Dasa, wrote the Lakshmi Purana in the 15th century. Despite its name, it is not one of the eighteen main Hindu puranas; rather, it is a work of regional literature from the mediaeval period that addresses gender and social norms.
The goddess Lakshmi leaves Puri for a journey after noticing that many people were disregarding the fact that it was a holy event devoted to her. She poses as a Brahmin lady and gives advice on rituals for her worship to the wife of a wealthy trader. As she leaves the city limits, she encounters Shriya, an impoverished outcast who performs rituals in the deity’ honour.
